Receipts, refunds and leaving

What Anna sees afterwards: grouped payments in her wallet, a receipt page in The Satoshi Vision, a refund paid as a new payment, a price change, and what the app shows once she revokes it.

Two weeks in, Anna has paid The Vision for a few dozen articles. This flow covers everything after the reading: how those payments look in her wallet and in the app, how money comes back for a faulty article, how a price reaches her, and what happens when she takes The Satoshi Vision's permission away.

Some screens here are Bitcoin SV Wallet's, not The Satoshi Vision's. They are included because a reader's trust in the app depends on them, and an app team should know what the other side shows.

Activity in Bitcoin SV Wallet

Bitcoin SV Wallet's activity list under a 'Today' heading, with one grouped row 'The Satoshi Vision, 14 articles, 280 sats, about 14p' among ordinary payments to people, and a separate small row 'Allowance granted to The Satoshi Vision'

Anna's activity list does not show fourteen rows of "20 sats". It shows one, "The Satoshi Vision, 14 articles, 280 sats", with the local figure beside it, "about 14p". The day she set up the allowance has its own row, "Allowance granted to The Satoshi Vision", styled apart from payments.

That grouping is Bitcoin SV Wallet's job, set out in Activity. The Satoshi Vision's part is to give the wallet something to group by: each payment it requests carries a short description naming the article.

Do

Describe each payment request with the article's title, short enough to read in one line of a wallet's activity list.

the same Bitcoin SV Wallet row expanded to show article titles, each with '20 sats' and a time, and a link at the bottom reading 'Receipts on satoshivision.example.com'

Opened, the row lists what each payment bought, by title and time. At the bottom, a link leads back to The Satoshi Vision's receipt page.

The Satoshi Vision's 'Your receipts' page on a phone, grouped by day, each day showing a total in sats and pounds and a list of article titles with prices, plus a 'Report a problem' link beside each article

The Satoshi Vision keeps its own record, "Your receipts", reached from the meter sheet and from the site's menu. It is grouped by day, each day leads with its total, and each article has a Report a problem link. There is no account behind it. The page is tied to the key Bitcoin SV Wallet made for this site, so Anna sees the same list on any device where she connects the same wallet.

At the bottom, a download gives the full list, one line per payment, with date, title, amount and local value.

Do

Let the reader reach every article she has paid for from its receipt, so a receipt doubles as her reading history.

Do

Put a way to report a faulty article next to each receipt line, not on a separate support page.

A refund

Anna reports that one article was cut off half-way. The Satoshi Vision agrees and pays her back. A payment is final once accepted (The hard parts), so the refund is a new payment from The Satoshi Vision to Anna. It appears in Bitcoin SV Wallet as an incoming row, "Refund from The Satoshi Vision, 20 sats", with a note naming the article. On the receipt page, the original line gains "Refunded" and a link to the refund.

This depends on what Pricing says to keep with every payment taken: a way to reach the payer's wallet and what the payment was for.

Do

Name the article in the refund's note, so the incoming payment in the reader's wallet explains itself without a visit to the app.

Don't

Describe a refund in the app as a payment being reversed or cancelled. Say "We've sent you 20 sats back".

A price change

an The Satoshi Vision notice card over the front page reading 'From 1 December, articles cost 25 sats (about 1p).' and 'Your 500 sats a day will buy about 20 articles.', with 'Keep my allowance' and 'Change it in Bitcoin SV Wallet' buttons

The Satoshi Vision decides to charge 25 sats from 1 December. Two weeks before, anyone with an active allowance sees a card on their next visit: "From 1 December, articles cost about 1p (25 sats). Your 500 sats a day will buy about 20 articles." The buttons are Keep my allowance and Change it in Bitcoin SV Wallet. Front-page prices change on the day, not before.

The card answers the question the price change raises for Anna: what her allowance now buys. Pricing explains why a budget granted against one price should not quietly start buying less.

Do

Show the price-change notice to every reader with an active allowance before the new price applies, with the date it takes effect.

Revoking The Satoshi Vision

In Bitcoin SV Wallet's list of connected apps, The Satoshi Vision has its own page: the verified domain, the allowance and its end date, what is used today, when it last charged, and Remove The Satoshi Vision. That page is the wallet's permissions dashboard, which sets out what it contains.

Removing The Satoshi Vision takes effect at once. Bitcoin SV Wallet says: "The Satoshi Vision can no longer charge you. It will ask again if you connect."

The Satoshi Vision on a phone after revocation, showing an article with its free paragraphs and a panel reading 'The Satoshi Vision isn't connected to your wallet any more. Articles you've bought are still yours.' with a 'Connect wallet to read' button

The next time Anna opens The Satoshi Vision, it has no grant to use. Prices are back on every headline, and the first paid article shows a panel: "The Satoshi Vision isn't connected to your wallet any more. Articles you've bought are still yours.", with Connect wallet to read. There is no warning colour and no attempt to talk her out of it.

If she connects again with the same wallet, Bitcoin SV Wallet gives The Satoshi Vision the same site key. Her receipts and bought articles return, with no allowance in place. A new allowance is offered only after her next paid article, as on her first visit.

Do

After a revocation, keep every article the reader already paid for readable once she connects the same wallet again, with no new payment.

Don't

Ask for the allowance again in the same panel that tells the reader she is no longer connected. Reconnecting and granting an allowance are two decisions, made at two moments.

Open questions

  • Without a connection, should articles already bought stay readable on the device they were bought on? The app could remember them locally, at the cost of a record Anna did not ask it to keep.
  • How long before a price change should the notice appear for a product whose allowances last 30 days?
  • Should a refund for a faulty article be automatic when the app knows the page failed to load, or always wait for the reader to report it?
  • Do readers use the receipt page at all, once their wallet's activity shows article titles?
